BENEFITS OF LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE

Body Detoxification:

Toxins, Wastes, Lymph

The job of the body's lymphatic system is to remove toxins and unwanted wastes by transporting lymph through a network of tissues and organs. When it isn't working properly, toxin is built up in your body and disrupts your immune system and health. Our lymphatic drainage massage effectively flushes out waste and toxins residing in the body, increasing your overall health.

Reduction of Water Retention & Weight Loss

A lymphatic drainage massage gently expels all excess and unwanted fluids to be processed and then to exit the body. It is known for a variety of potential benefits such as boosting weight loss by increased metabolism, improving, and reducing cellulite, skin swelling and puffiness.

Skin Care, Tone & Quality

With regular sessions of lymphatic drainage massages, various skin benefits are likely to occur. The massages ensure that functional tissue in the body is improved which helps address issues with scar tissue and stretch marks. Overall skin is softened, skin tone is more even and there is reduced acne and pimples.

Improved Blood Circulation

Blood circulation is vital to your health as it distributes oxygen and nutrients to all parts of the body. Furthermore, proper blood circulation helps to carry remove the toxins and waste in the body. Our Lymphatic Drainage Body Massage improves blood circulation by dilating your blood vessels and widening the membrane pores, improving your body’s ability to deliver fresh blood to muscles and organs. It also promotes soft, pliable tissues for better muscle health.

Healing and Reduction of Swelling After Injury & Surgery

This is an important benefit of our lymphatic drainage massage for those with injuries or recovering post-surgery. With improved blood circulation around injured areas, the circulation of lymph is also improved, and lymph moves faster to flush out the toxins and wastes from the affected area. This reduces swelling and associated pain and discomfort, thereby speeding up the healing and post-surgery recovery process.

Lymphatic drainage massages also reduce peripheral swelling of arms, legs, hands and feet, and bruising. These massages also help to relieve pain, stiffness and swelling related to certain health problems (Lymphedema, ‌Breast Cancer, Rheumatoid Arthritis, ‌Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI), ‌Fibromyalgia (Inflammation of skin nerves), Edemas or Swelling, Digestive Issues, Migraines, Stress, Post-Surgery Recovery, and others).

Improved Immunity

Blood circulation is maintained well with body fluid balance of lymph being transported out of the body. Immune functions can then be more effective to regulate inflammation, tackle pain and fight off bacteria, infections, and viruses. A compromised immune and lymphatic system means that the body's first line of defence is down and makes it hard for one to avoid falling sick. A lymph blockage also reduces this ability because when lymph nodes become blocked, waste fluids accumulate, causing the lymphatic system to turn toxic, making us more susceptible to sickness.

Increased Relaxation, Reduced Anxiety & Stress

A good lymphatic drainage body massage is instrumental in relieving stress and anxiety. With light, gentle rhythmic strokes and skilled techniques, our massage is a low pressure and painless treatment that restores your body's well-being, relaxes your nervous system, and provides feelings of calmness and relaxation. This can help you achieve better sleep quality, reduced muscle tension, higher energy levels and reduced fatigue. You will feel well-rested and reinvigorated after the drainage massage.

HOW IT WORKS

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE?

Humans have approximately 500 to 600 lymph nodes distributed throughout the body, with clusters found in the underarms, groin, neck, chest, and abdomen. Lymphatic drainage detox massages and treatments stimulate, enhance, and speed up our body’s natural waste removal processes by naturally encouraging the flow of lymph fluid out of the body.

Our experienced massage therapists will use a series of massage techniques and light rhythmic movements, including stretching, compressing, gliding, and cupping motions on bare skin no added oils. This stimulates the lymphatic system to make lymph fluid move easily through nodes and tissues without getting trapped in the body.

Your body will be warmed up and the massage therapist will focus on your body's blood circulation. They will then focus on the area that they want the lymph fluid to drain into (often the abdomen or chest areas). Then the therapist will very gently stimulate the skin around the areas of swelling and will repeat this on various areas of the body.

WHY DO LYMPH BLOCKAGES OCCUR & WHAT CAUSES POOR LYMPHATIC FLOW?

Injury or Surgery:

After injury or surgery, especially those that involve lymph node removal, the lymph rushes to that area to aid healing. However, due to damage or removal of lymph nodes, fluid retention and tissue swelling in the area can occur instead. Without proper drainage, the lymph becomes toxic and harms the body.

Pregnancy & Maternity:

As the body retains more fluids during pregnancy, water retention arises and swelling in the ankles or arms and hands commonly occurs. These excess fluids can be expelled through lymphatic drainage massages.

Unhealthy Diets:

Food that is high in fat, oils and cholesterol can create congestion in blood cells. This congestion and blockages produce additional bodily waste that needs to be cleared by lymph and processed by tissues and organs.

Lack of Exercise:

Active and regular muscle movement keeps lymph circulating around the body and improves blood circulation. It is important to use the body’s muscles to improve lymph flow and processing.

TYPES OF LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE TECHNIQUES

There are 4 types of lymphatic drainage massage techniques commonly used by massage therapists and physical therapists:

  1. Vodder Technique: A foundational technique that utilises sweeping motions around the area of treatment.
  2. Foldi Technique: An extension of the Vodder technique, Foldi requires the massage therapist to alternate between circular hand movements and moments of relaxation.
  3. Casley-Smith Technique: This technique also involves circular hand movements, mainly using the sides and palms of the massage therapist's hands.
  4. Leduc Technique: This technique relies on hand movements to collect and pool lymph fluid before redirecting it for reabsorption into the body's larger lymphatic system.

How can I prepare myself for a Tranquillity Lymphatic Drainage Body Massage?

You should hydrate yourself adequately as dehydration might hinder your body’s ability to detox and heal. Do avoid eating a heavy meal before the massage. On the day of the appointment, keep your schedule after the massage empty and take it easy for the rest of the day as you will be feeling very relaxed, and further resting is encouraged. Do not consume alcohol before and after the massage treatment. Please contact us to reschedule your lymphatic drainage massage session if you are feeling sick or unwell.

How will I feel after my Tranquillity Lymphatic Drainage Body Massage? Are there any side effects?

You may experience an increase in urination and/or bowel movements. This is due to the many toxins and wastes excreted from the organs and digestive systems that process lymph. There may also be an increase in hunger and thirst. Your body will be more aware of the nutrients it needs, and you should hydrate your body before and after the massage. However, do not be alarmed as these are all normal by-products of a lymphatic drainage massage.

How often should I get a Tranquillity Lymphatic Drainage Body Massage?
